meet the team

Nick & Seidon
Lovely to meet you!
My journey into dog training began with my working line Springer Spaniel, Seidon.

When I first brought him home, I was eager for the freedom and adventure that came with owning a gundog. But I quickly realised how unprepared I was for the challenges ahead. Seidon’s reactivity, high energy, and intense instincts left me feeling overwhelmed. Walks were chaotic, with endless chasing, hunting, and barking, and I couldn’t seem to find the right approach to manage his behaviour.

That’s when I decided to shift my focus to understanding Seidon’s genetic instincts. By learning to work with his natural drive rather than against it, I was able to transform our relationship. We soon began enjoying long, fulfilling walks, and his behavioural issues slowly but surely diminished.
This experience ignited my passion for dog training, leading me to shadow top trainers while working full-time at a doggy daycare. Over time, I deepened my knowledge through a 6-month mentorship with Ches Pickering (Phoenix K9 Training), attending gundog clubs, and exploring various dog sports.

At Bear Basics, I specialise in helping owners of working breeds understand and work with their dog’s natural instincts. My aim is to help you build a stronger, more fulfilling bond with your dog by respecting their breed traits and channeling their energy effectively.

When I’m not working with clients, I love training and working with Sid in the Gundog sector.

Hey there!
Co-Founder, Academy Manager, Media Producer
I'm Yasmin, the other Co-Founder of Bear Basics and the Academy Manager. My main role involves overseeing the daily operations of our training business, which includes handling bookings, responding to messages, and coordinating training sessions. Beyond these responsibilities, I’m also the in-house photographer, so every image you see on our socials is my work, showcasing the moments we capture during training and other events.

I'm also very passionate about Canine Health & Nutrition and hope to become certified to help educate owners on the importance of canine health and nutrition.

As a practical, compassionate, and ambitious individual, I thrive on being outdoors, especially when I’m with dogs. I’m deeply passionate about lifestyle and country photography, finding beauty in natural settings and the bond between humans and their pets. My love for photography allows me to combine my creative side with my love for animals, creating meaningful content that reflects the heart of what we do at Bear Basics.

our mission

At Bear Basics, our mission is to help you understand your dog’s natural instincts and harness them to unlock their full potential, creating a balanced and fulfilling life together. We specialise in working with dogs of all breeds, with a particular focus on gundog breeds, recognising that each breed comes with its own set of instincts, drives, and needs.

We believe in empowering dog owners to build the strongest possible relationship with their dog through understanding the importance of biological fulfilment, clear communication, and a holistic approach that considers the whole picture. Rather than simply addressing behavioural issues in isolation, we focus on strengthening the bond between you and your dog, ensuring they are fulfilled in both mind and body.
At Bear Basics, we don’t believe in quick fixes. We take the time to explain the "why" behind everything we do, providing you with the knowledge and tools you need to create lasting, meaningful change. By laying strong foundations, we ensure that your training will set you and your dog up for a lifetime of success and a thriving partnership.
core pillars
relationship
A strong relationship with your dog is based on mutual trust and respect. I aim to help you build a cooperative partnership, where you and your dog work together as a team to navigate challenges with confidence.
fulfilment
Understand how your dog’s instincts and drive shape their behaviour, and learn how to work with their natural genetics to reduce conflict. This approach leads to a happier, more fulfilled, and motivated dog.
holistic
Just like with humans, a dog’s behaviour is influenced by many factors. To address issues at the core, we consider all aspects of your dog’s life, diet, exercise, sleep, genetics, and overall health.
our approach
We take a holistic and balanced approach to training, tailoring our methods to suit both you and your dog's individual needs, personality, and lifestyle.

Specialising in working breeds, we are passionate about harnessing and utilising your dog’s natural drive and instincts, rather than trying to suppress them. Our focus is on creating a fulfilling environment where your dog’s breed-specific traits are respected and channeled positively.

We emphasise the importance of health and wellbeing, making sure your dog’s physical and emotional needs are met through a balanced diet, sufficient rest, and appropriate training. By using food and play as motivation, we help reinforce desired behaviours while using the least intrusive methods possible. When appropriate, we advocate for the safe and ethical use of training tools.

Our goal is to build a strong partnership between you and your dog, fostering a trusting, mutually respectful relationship that resolves behaviour issues and supports long-term success. With clear structure, effective communication, and consistent guidance, we ensure both you and your dog thrive together.
